Robotics Are a Growing Hiring Trend

We've been watching the robotics hiring trends closely as more processes and procedures are using robotic elements. During March, more than 1,800 job listings were advertised online that required robotics skills in the job description. This is a new four-year high in March, with demand growing 44% compared to March 2011 and 80% versus 2010.

As more surgical and medical processes use robotic-assisted procedures, hiring demand for Registered Nurses that are able to operate these components has grown significantly. In fact, RN's saw the highest volume of job ads that required robotics skills during March of any occupation. Robotics skills are also commonly required in the engineering, technical, and production (manufacturing) occupational fields. Due to the overall growth in hiring demand for robotics skills, we are also seeing an emergence of online and virtual classrooms where these skills are taught. The number of online job listings for Post-Secondary Teachers to teach these classes increased 175% during March compared to one year ago.

In addition to robotics, these job ads often require potential candidates to have these other skills:

  1. Microsoft Office
  2. Structured query language (SQL)
  3. Microsoft PowerPoint
  4. Oracle Java
  5. Linux
  6. Autodesk AutoCAD
  7. Microsoft SQL Server (MS SQL)
  8. Motion control
  9. UNIX
  10. Vision systems
