Every day, WANTED's web spiders crawl through employment websites, capturing new job ads. Our proprietary technology removes duplicates, normalizes critical analytical components, appends established third party data elements, and organizes the lot in a robust data warehouse.

By mining the 4-plus years of data accessible through Analytics 2.0 and using statistical techniques, WANTED can detect when companies increase their level of Hiring Demand – a "Gazelles alert". Every week, we produce a "Gazelles Report" which lists and details company's with spikes or upward trends in their levels of online recruitment advertising.

Below a sample of what our Gazelle Report looks like, for the 5 publicly traded companies we feature this week:

Source: WANTED Analytics

Macy's (NYSE:M) was a top gainer in today's trading, appreciating $1.13 or 6.3% on the New York Stock Exchange. Macy's Hiring Demand has tripled since hitting a low of 6,830 online job ads in April. A surge in 'Retail Sales Workers' hiring triggered our Gazelles alert. This is the third time we have featured Macy's on this blog. We first discussed it when it triggered Gazelles alerts on October 2nd, 2009. We also highlighted Macy's surge in Hiring Demand as early as July 20th in our monthly Fortune 1000 discussion. The correlation between Macy's Hiring Demand and its stock price has been 0.73 over the past three years.

Source: WANTED Analytics

Radio One (NASDAQ:ROIA) has done it again! It was a top gainer in yesterday's trading, up 17%, and triggered a Gazelles alert with Hiring Demand that is 84% higher than its one year historical average. Although Hiring Demand for 'Advertising, Marketing, and Promotions Managers' has softened, it seems that those new hires have done their work selling advertising, as 'Media and Communication Workers' Hiring Demand is on the rise. Radio One had 91 job ads a month ago, 10 fewer than we saw this week. This week marks the fourth time we've featured this company.

Source: WANTED Analytics

Skyworks Solutions (NASDAQ:SWKS), a chip manufacturer, was a top gainer in yesterday's trading, based on a positive earnings release. It had triggered a Gazelles alert as early as two weeks ago, and did so again this week with Hiring Demand 68% above its one-year average. Its Hiring Demand trend for Engineers has been positive since December, when it posted for the fewest number of engineers in recent history (only 5 job ads); that count now stands at 59 for the month of October. Its stock price has more than doubled since that December low, and Hiring Demand has been closely related to improvements in its stock price: the correlation between the two has been 0.8 since the start of the year.

Source: WANTED Analytics

Brightpoint (NASDAQ:CELL) was a top gainer yesterday, up almost 13%. It triggered a Gazelles alert with Hiring Demand 18% greater than its one-year average. According to its website, "Brightpoint is a global leader in the distribution of wireless devices and [...] customized logistic services to the wireless industry", mentionning also that it is "the 'last mile' in wireless distribution". As such, its hiring for Computer Systems Analysts makes sense. Since January 2008, the correlation between its Hiring Demand and stock price has been 0.74.

Source: WANTED Analytics

We finish with TTM Technologies, a supplier of printed circuit boards to OEMs (NASDAQ:TTMI). It triggered a Gazelles report with Hiring Demand that is 50% greater than its one-year average. It usually hires for "Metal and Plastic Workers". It was a top gainer yesterday with a 12% appreciation of its stock price.

Source: WANTED Analytics

Every day, WANTED's web spiders crawl through employment websites, capturing new job ads. Our proprietary technology removes duplicates, normalizes critical analytical components (Standard Occupation Codes, standard Census Bureau location codes), appends established third party data elements (D&B DUNS), and organizes the lot in a robust data warehouse.

By mining the 4-plus years of data accessible through Analytics 2.0 and using statistical techniques, WANTED can detect when companies increase their Hiring Demand – a "Gazelles alert". The Gazelles Report lists and details company's with spikes or upward trends in their levels of recruitment advertising.

Every week, we feature five companies appearing in the Gazelles Report, with a bias towards publicly traded companies.

Acxiom Corporation was a top gainer on the NASDAQ on October 29th (NASDAQ:ACXM). Acxiom has almost tripled its Hiring Demand since May, going from 31 available jobs a week to 91 available jobs a week. Acxiom is "the global leader in interactive marketing services" according to its website, and Hiring Demand for the three main types of workers it hires has also tripled since May (Marketing Managers, Sales Managers, and Computer Systems Analysts). The correlation between Acxiom Corporation stock price and its Hiring Demand has been 0.77 over the past four years. Looking at the graph, investors would have known that something was up as early as February 2007 – it's stock only took a hit six months later. More recently, as Hiring Demand had tripled, its stock had been trading between $9 and $10. It jumped by $1.50 to $11.50 during Thursday's trading.

Odyssey Healthcare is a specialized Healthcare provider (NASAQ:ODSY). It provides "quality of life for patients facing terminal diagnoses", according to its website, and has been in this niche since 1996. Odyssey Health was a top gainer on October 29th. Hiring Demand was stable with 800 to 950 online job ads a week from February to July, and its stock price traded around $10 during that period. Odyssey started tripling its Hiring Demand in late July and its stock price quickly followed by gaining 30%. Odyssey appeared in our Gazelles report by posting for 1,200 nursing jobs last week.

Akamai Technology's stock price (NASDAQ:AKAM) and its Hiring Demand has had a correlation of 0.60 over the past four years. Akamai Technology triggered a Gazelles alert this week, and correspondingly it was also a top gainer on the NASDAQ on October 29th. In the past three months it had increased its number of online job ads by more than 50%.

The Casual Male Retail Group (NASDAQ:CMRG) triggered a Gazelles alert by flooding Monster.com. Flooding of jobs on major paid-for national job boards are usually very strong and meaningful signals, since it isn't cheap to advertise on those sites. You're only going to post on Monster if you're really looking to hire people. Starting in August, Casual Male had around 200 jobs on Monster. It's stock was trading at $1.60 in July before this spike. The stock hit a high at $3.72 in mid-September. It was a top gainer on Oct 29th, gaining 28 cents or 12% on a $2.62 base. Since then, the number of online job ads fell from 214 to 155.

Radio One (NASDAQ:ROIA), which we've featured before, was a top gainer on October 27th, when it stock price rose $0.42 or 24.71%. What's encouraging about Hiring Demand at Radio One is the occupational profile: it has about 85 jobs online, 35 of which are for "Advertising and Promotions Managers". It had posted fewer than 15 of these types of jobs before the "Gazelle" activity that started in April.

Every day, WANTED's web spiders crawl through employment websites capturing job ads. Our proprietary technology removes duplicates (previously seen ads), normalizes critical analytical components (locations, company names), appends established third party data elements (D&B DUNS number, BLS occupation codes, Census industry codes, Census geography codes), and finally organizes the lot in a robust data warehouse.

By mining the 4+ years of data accessible through Analytics 2.0, WANTED can detect when companies increase their Hiring Demand. The WANTED Gazelles Report specifically focuses on these companies. Every week, we feature five companies appearing in the Gazelles Report.

Radio One (NASDAQ:ROAIK) – which we've featured before – was a top gainer on the NASDAQ on August 6th. Its stock is up 150% since mid-July, which corresponds to an aggressive recruitment campaign. It triggered a Gazelle alert by posting 27 new job ads on Net-Temps, mostly for Marketing Managers. It has 18 Sales Managers, 12 Sales Representative, and 10 Advertising and Promotions jobs available. Last year at this time only 2 Sales Manager positions were available. It also has a total of 91 jobs posted on CareerMag, whereas it had none at this point last year.

Source: WANTED Analytics

Quest Diagnostics (NYSE:DGX) has increased its Hiring Demand by 44% this month compared to its one year average. It posted more than 400 job ads for "Healthcare Support Occupations" in July, and more than 200 such ads in both May and June. Over the past three years the number of job ads for these types of workers has usually hovered around 100. Both Hiring Demand and Quest stock have been moving in tandem. In the past 12 months the correlation between Quest Diagnostics job ads and stock price has been 0.31. The spike in new job ads in September of 2008 resulted from Quest beginning to use CareerBuilder.

Source: WANTED Analytics

Morgan Stanley (NYSE:MS) has triggered two different Gazelle alerts. Both "Morgan Stanley" and the smaller wealth management division "Morgan Stanley Smith Barney" have shown jumps in Hiring Demand, particularly for Financial Specialists. Morgan Stanley has triggered a Gazelles alert for the past six consecutive weeks. The historical correlation between Morgan Stanley stock price and the number of job ads is 0.73.

Source: WANTED Analytics

Hess Corporation (NYSE:HES) has triggered a Gazelles alert by quintupling its Hiring Demand in July. Hess had 43 jobs on LatPro this week, whereas it had only 8 jobs at the same time last year on that job board.

Source: WANTED Analytics

Finally, Amazon.com (NASDAQ:AMZN) has boosted its Hiring Demand for both Computer Occupations and Management Occupations. It posted 632 Computer jobs last month and 1,032 this month, a 63% increase. It posted 451 Management jobs last month and posted 656 of those jobs this month, a 31% increase. Since last month Amazon stock is up 13%. The historical correlation between the number of available job ads and Amazon stock price is 0.57, with the correlation of stock price and one-week lagged value of job ads sitting at 0.59, suggesting that Amazon stock will appreciate again next week.

Source: WANTED Analytics
