Beginning in early 2012, the number of ads that stayed online for more than 90 days began in increase, reaching a 4-year high in July 2013. In September, the 1.5 million ads represented a 53% increase compared to September of last year. In addition, there is an increasing percentage of jobs staying online for longer periods of time. In September 2011, just 5.8% of job ads remained online for more than 90 days. Over the past 2 years, that portion has increased to more than 8.7% of ads spending more than 90 days online.

Below is a list of the 20 occupations that had the most ads online for more than 90 days. Many of these occupations are for sales and other customer-facing jobs that often see high turnover and constant recruiting. If companies always leave job ads online and are always looking for potential candidates, this could be the reason that these occupations show a longer posting period. Of these occupations, Heavy and Tractor Trailer Truck Drivers have the longest average posting period across the US. Jobs for Truck Drivers average 55 days online, or just under 8 weeks. Also, most of these occupations had more ads online for over 90 days than they did last year. Only Customer Service Representatives declined, with 14% fewer ads this year than during last September.
