Happy Halloween! Costume stores, haunted hayrides, and horror film fests are popping up all over the nation and you may be preparing for tonight's trick-or-treating. We thought it might be interesting to see what kind of hiring comes with Halloween. Based on the below chart depicting the number of job ads, hiring typically takes place between August and September, then drops in October and November. This, year in August and September, there were about 8,800 job ads available online for positions that specifically mentioned Halloween. Demand had been increasing each year. However, this year represented a 32% decline from last year's demand. Is Halloween going to be a smaller celebration than in past years?
It's probably not too surprising that retail sales workers and retail sales managers were among some of the most in-demand occupations over the past 2 months. Some of the other in-demand fields were general and operations managers, actors, web developers, makeup artists, entertainers, and meeting planners.
The industries with the most job ads were:
- Gift, novelty, and souvenir stores
- Formal wear and costume rentals
- Chocolate and confectionery manufacturing
- Miscellaneous store retailers
- Other clothing stores
Most of these make sense considering that costumes and candy might be the most popular parts of Halloween!
