Considering that unhappy attitudes towards jobs can make recruiting for these positions challenging, we looked at the difficulty level of sourcing talent for the "unhappiest jobs" by using our Hiring Scale heat maps.
1. Security Officer
Demand for Security Officers has remained steady over the past year. This position is easy to recruit for nationally. The New York metro has, by far, the largest talent pool for this position making it one of the best places to recruit qualified job candidates. This area also has the most demand for Security Officers, closely followed by Washington, DC.
2. Registered Nurse
Registered Nurse continues to top our lists of most demanded occupations. Like Security Officers, the New York metro has the most job candidates for this position. Dallas, TX leads in demand followed by New York, NY and Houston, TX. Recruiting for this position should be somewhat on the easier side. According to the heat map of our Hiring Scale, mixed hiring difficulty levels can be expected depending on your location. Redding, CA has the most difficulty recruiting for this position while Jackson, MS has the best conditions. To fill a position quickly, Recruiters should source talent in Johnstown, PA where hiring conditions are favorable and jobs are posted online for an average of 28 days (4 weeks), which is 2 weeks less than the national average.
3. Teacher
We recently covered hiring demand for Teachers and stated that May's hiring demand was 22% ahead of May 2011. Demand for this job usually peaks in August, so we might continue to see an overall increase in jobs posted online for Teachers this year. The heat map of Hiring Scales for Elementary Teachers shows most of the US as bright green which indicates that this position is easy to hire for on average. There is a large talent pool for Teachers across the US. New York metro has the most job candidates followed by Los Angeles and Chicago. New York, NY also has the highest demand for Teachers followed by Chicago and Dallas.
4. Sales Engineer
Sales Engineer demand has been higher this year than last year with more than 5,000 job ads posted online, a 31% year-over-year increase. Throughout the US, it looks mostly difficult to fill this position. Sales Engineer jobs are least difficult to fill in Oxnard, CA and most difficult in Shreveport, LA. To fill these position quickly, Recruiters can look to Augusta, GA for talent. In this location, the average time-to-fill is 21 days. New York City leads in hiring demand and available job candidates.
5. Product Managers
Nationwide, it is easy to fill positions for Product Managers. San Diego, CA has the best conditions for recruiting. It should take the least amount of time to fill this position in San Francisco, CA with an 18 day average posting period, 3 1/2 weeks shorter than the national average. While, national hiring demand for Product Managers has remained steady, the New York metro has the highest hiring demand and volume of job candidates.
6. Program Managers
Nationally, our Hiring Scale heat map demonstrates that this position will be somewhat difficult to recruit for with Monroe, MI having the most difficulty. Average time-to-fill this positions is 29 days. It might help Recruiters to source talent in Washington, DC where they have the largest candidate supply for Program Managers or in Oshkosh, WI where they have some of the best overall recruiting conditions.
7. Marketing Managers
We recently reported on Marketing Manager jobs being difficult-to-fill. Demand for Marketing Managers has been continuing to increase each year for the past 4 years. July had a 22% year-over-year increase in jobs posted online. When looking up this position in the Hiring Scale heat map, the map appears mostly red, which indicates that Recruiters will experience a high difficulty level sourcing talent for this job. New York, NY had the highest demand and the most job candidates. On average, jobs are posted online for 6 weeks. It's easiest to fill Marketing Manager positions in Hickory, NC.
8. Director of Sales
Most areas will have trouble recruiting for Director of Sales. Riverside, CA is one of the best places to look for talent having a large talent pool in relation to job demand. Charleston, WV is one of the hardest-to-fill locations. Although, New York, NY, Los Angeles, CA, and Chicago, IL have the largest supply of candidates, they all experience difficulty recruiting for this position.
9. Marketing Director
Similar to Marketing Managers, this position is also difficult to recruit for. Even the locations that appear to have the best conditions still show moderate recruiting difficulty levels. One such place is Buffalo, NY. New York, NY also had the highest demand and the most job candidates for this occupation. The average posting period is also 6 weeks for Marketing Directors.
10. Maintenance Supervisor
Demand for Maintenance Supervisors has increased 73% over the past 2 years, as of July 2012. Our Hiring Scale heat maps display most areas as being bright to medium green, which indicates that it should be relatively easy to fill Maintenance Supervisor positions. Los Angeles, CA has some of the best conditions for recruiting this occupation while Myrtle Beach, CA would experience the most difficulty. Ads are posted online for an average of 41 days. New York, NY, and Washington, DC have the most jobs posted online. These locations also have the largest candidate pools.
These jobs may be unhappy or difficult to handle for some, but Recruiters aren't likely to experience difficulty sourcing candidates for all of these positions.
