In-demand Technology Job Titles for 5 High-Demand Cities

By Abby Lombardi on July 18, 2012 in Computer/Math/IT, Information Technology - XLK.

We often report on hiring trends in the tech industry. As most people probably know, these jobs have been growing in demand over the past years. Instead of just updating you on the volume of job ads, we thought it might be more interesting to compare the most in-demand job titles in the 5 cities with the most IT related job listings. Those 5 cities are: New York, Washington (DC), San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Chicago.

Before scrolling down to read the lists, do you think the job titles will be the same in each city?

These 5 cities all have some commonalities, and some differences. First of all, Java Developer is the most commonly advertised job title in each of these locations. New York City and Chicago both had high demand for .NET Developers, while this title didn't appear for the other 3 cities. Also, we were surprised that Web Developer only appeared for one location – Los Angeles. This is surprising because Web Developers are one of the most in-demand tech occupations, yet this job title may not be used most commonly. Are there other job titles you use for Web Developers?
