Now that June has passed, we thought it would be a good time to review what jobs were most in-demand during June 2012 and where they were located. Overall, there were more than 5.3 million job ads seen online during June. This is a 17% increase in the number of postings compared to June of 2011. Employers accounted for about 84% of job listings, whereas staffing firms and recruiting agencies posted about 16% of the job openings.

Below are the 10 metropolitan areas that had the most job ads online during June, all of which experienced year-over-year increases in the number of ads. Once again, New York saw the highest hiring demand with 300,000 available postings. Los Angeles, Washington (DC), Chicago, and Boston rounded out the top 5 cities. However, Houston saw the greatest growth compared to June of 2011, with 27% more job ads this year than last.

The following chart shows the 10 occupations with the highest number of online job listings during June 2012. Registered Nurses were the most in-demand, with 246,000 postings and a 22% year-over-year growth. However, Food Preparation Workers grew the most when compared to last year, more than doubling the demand. Technology jobs were also in high demand, with 4 of the below being computer related.

Seeing that Registered Nurses were the most in-demand occupation during June, it's not too surprising that Medical and Surgical Hospitals were the industry with the most job ads. Also, since food preparation workers were highly advertised, Limited Service Restaurants appeared as one of the fastest growing industries in June.
