Six Sigma is commonly required for Engineering job applicants. We've seen the number of employers that require this knowledge or a specific Six Sigma certification increase 28%. In June, more than 12,000 job ads for Engineers with Six Sigma experience were available online.

Hiring Demand for Six Sigma Engineers – 4 Year Hiring Trend

There are a variety of Six Sigma certifications that are available for Engineers. The most commonly required in online job ads are:

1. Six Sigma black belt
2. American Society for Quality (ASQ)
3. Six Sigma green belt
4. Certified Quality Engineer (CQE)
5. Six Sigma certification

In addi tion, we see that many of the specific skills that are required of candidates are quality related:

1. Project Management
2. Lean manufacturing
3. Business Process improvement
4. Product development/management
5. Quality Assurance (QA)
6. Microsoft Office
7. Quality Systems

With demand increasing, our Hiring Scale shows that Recruiters are likely to have a difficult time sourcing candidates and filling jobs. Areas with higher than average growth will see even more challenges. For example, Houston, Texas saw the number of job ads increase 37% in June compared to last year. However, the local talent pool has not grown at the same pace. Here, job openings take longer to fill than on average – about 47 days.
