"Back To School Special" – Markets Still Looking for Teachers

Hiring for teachers is very seasonal, with the peak in the number of online job ads occurring in August. The number of online job ads grows through the summer, falls 25% come September, and continues to decline through the fall.

Teachers that have yet to find a classroom can use our Supply/Demand Ratios to find out which cities have the most demand for them, relative to the number of teachers already available in that market.

In this post, we look at the best markets for pre-school teachers, elementary school teachers, and high school teachers. Kindergarten and middle-school teachers are not detailed here but can be examined on our S/D Ratios page.

The largest cities in the US represent the best opportunities for pre-school, elementary, or high school teachers: New York, San Francisco, Minneapolis, Boston, and Los Angeles round out the top five. Other interesting cities are Durham NC, Seattle, and even Providence RI.

There seems to be a shortage of pre-school teachers in Burlington VT and a shortage of elementary teachers in Charlotte NC.
