Talent Shortage for Web Developers Grows with Increase in Hiring Demand
More than 36,000 new jobs were advertised online for Web Developers during August, a 24% year-over-year growth, causing a talent shortage for this occupation, according to WANTED Analytics™.
New York, NY – September 27, 2011. During August, Recruiters placed more than 36,000 new online job ads for Web Developers, according to WANTED Analytics™ (www.wantedanalytics.com), the leading source of real-time business intelligence for the talent marketplace. Hiring demand for Web Developers has remained strong in 2011, up 30% versus August 2010 and up 127% from 2009. The most commonly advertised job titles for this occupation were Java Developer, Web Developer, .Net Developer, Sharepoint Developer, Web Designer, PHP Developer and J2ee Developer.
Not only has the volume of job ads increased, but the number of companies that are advertising for Web Developers continues to rise. In August 2011, over 5,700 employers advertised new job openings for Web Developers. In comparison, 4,700 employers placed new job ads during the same time in 2010 and 3,100 employers recruited Web Developers in 2009.
The metropolitan areas with the highest hiring demand during this period were New York, Washington, DC and Los Angeles. Despite the higest volume of jobs being placed in the New York metro area, Los Angeles experienced the largest year-over-year growth, with 24% more job ads compared to August 2010.
Recruiting conditions across the US are likely to be very competitive, due to increased demand nationwide on a limited talent supply. According to the Hiring Scale™, the nationwide candidate pool consists of less than 1 potential candidate for each ad, meaning there are not enough Web Developers in the workforce to fill available job openings. However, recruiting conditions may vary in each city depending on regional talent pools. For example, of the three cities listed above with the highest hiring demand, Recruiters in New York are likely to experience the most difficult conditions, falling slightly below national average. Despite the fact that this position will be hard-to-fill on average, the Hiring Scale shows that the easiest recruiting conditions are likely to be in Carson City (NV), Hagerstown-Martinsburg (MD), and Parkersburg-Marietta-Vienna (WV).
