In July 2013, demand for candidates with bilingual Spanish speaking skills reached a new high, with over 109,000 job ads posted online. This represents a 10% increase in demand when compared to the same time last year. Annually, the number of job listings increases during the Summer months and peaks in August or September.

Demand for bilingual Spanish speaking skills was highest in the commercial banking industry during July 2013. Tax preparation services and consumer electronics and appliances rental industries experienced the largest increases in year-over-year job volume. Retail Salespersons and Customer Service Representatives continued to most commonly require bilingual Spanish speakers. Sales Agents, Financial Services and Secretaries and Administrative Assistants were both new to list of the most commonly advertised occupations below.

  2. Customer Service Representatives
  3. Social and Human Service Assistants
  4. Registered Nurses
  5. First-Line Supervisors of Retail Sales Workers
  6. Insurance Sales Agents
  7. Sales Agents, Financial Services
  8. Tellers
  9. Secretaries and Administrative Assistants (Except Legal, Medical, and Executive)
  10. Medical Assistants
Los Angeles edged out New York for the most demand, exceeding New York's job volume by 1,200 job ads. The number of job ads increased in Los Angeles by 5% in the past year. Demand in Miami also continues to grow. This metropolitan area had the largest increase, rising 26% since last year. These 3 metro areas are home to the largest Spanish speaking populations which creates a greater need for this skill set.
